About the club
“It’s really nice to join a club that welcomes new fencers and their parents- such a difference to other sporting activities where parents stand on the side lines- here we are encouraged to become part of the fencing community and enjoy our children’s successes and new skills. The peer led approach is also such a positive experience where older fencers mentor and encourage newer fencers, sharing their knowledge, skills and expertise which is a welcome addition to the experience.”
Based in the centre of Harrogate, HFC is a highly sucessful community fencing club run by a committee made of up enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.
We are a three weapon club but have a particular emphasis on Foil and Epee. The club boasts in excess of 100 members ranging in ability from junior and adult beginners, to social fencers and International athletes competing on the European and World circuits.
Wheelchair fencing is very much an integral part of the club and both junior and seniors, of all levels, are actively encouraged to take part in this programme as this form is fantastic for the improvement of blade work and hand speed.
Fencing takes place on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening during school term time .We regularly run junior and adult beginners courses and welcome new members and visiting fencers any time.
We run a very successful fencing 'In the Community Programme' and have particularly strong connections with both primary and senior schools in both the State and Private sectors. We also run fencing schemes for disability groups such as Mencap, The Autistic Society and Special Olympics Great Britain and, in conjunction with British Fencing, work very closely with uniform groups such as the Scout and Guide Associations.
