Frequently Asked Questions - Membership
Why would I join the membership scheme?
Depending on the number of session you are planning to attend, the membership scheme is the easiest, and most cost effective way of joining the club. Our fencing year is 36 weeks so If you are attending more than half of theses sessions then over the course of the year the scheme will save you money.
The membership scheme also give fencers access to discounts on kit deals with all the major fencing weapon and clothing manufactures .
What is my commitment to the SO scheme?
You set up your own standing order using the form that we will supply to you. You can cancel your standing order at any time. We would however ask for a voluntary commitment to quarterly payments i.e if you decide to leave part way through a quarter you commit to fulfilling the balance for the quarter.
How does the kit hire scheme work?
For those fencers wanting to hire kit we charge £30 for each half term period (a six week block). This charge covers the hire of a full set of kit (mask, jacket, plastron ,lame and glove). The club will still continue to supply the weapons. Kit hire can be paid for online via the booking page.
Is there a sibling/family discount?
Yes. If you have a second person in the same family you can take out a Sibling membership which would give you 50% off the second membership. The Sibling membership would be £324 per year /£27.00 per month direct debit
Can we move between schemes?
Yes you can. If you take out the SO scheme and find out you are not attending enough sessions to make it viable you can cancel at anytime and move immediately to the PAYG scheme.
What happens if we leave the club?
If you are on the SO scheme and have to stop fencing completely then you just cancel the scheme. Providing you are upto date with your session payments then you don’t owe us anything.
Can we fence in the holiday periods?
We normally close over the school holidays to give all our volunteers a well earned break . However from time to time we do run holiday training camps and squad sessions. These will NOT be covered by the membership scheme. Any holiday classes/ training sessions run during the holiday breaks would be charged separately to the membership scheme.
Do I still need to book sessions online?
Yes…….. but you won’t need to submit any payment. When you sign up for the membership scheme we will issue you with a booking code. You would book your sessions online as normal but when you enter the booking code it will discount your session to £zero. We ask you to do this as it help us confirm session numbers. The website however will allow you to block out multiple sessions in one booking so for example you can book a term block with just the one booking.
Can I pay the membership in a single payment?
Yes you can. Membership can be paid in full using a card payment via the online booking system.
How do we buy our own kit?
HFC have some good quality, but limited, second hand kit for sale. The club have also kit supplier discounts with both Leon Paul and Excalibur fencing so please ask for a discount code if your are purchasing direct. Please speak to the coaches if you are looking for kit advice before purchasing.
Does the membership include British Fencing Membership?
No. The BF membership is an individual membership and is not in anyway linked to club insurance. This must be paid for, and kept up to date, by the individual fencer. Those fencers enrolled on the beginners courses will still get the 90 day free BF membership.
Will the scheme be subject to any increases?
The club will have the right to increase the standing order charge in line with any inflationary/hall charge/ overhead increase. However notification of any increase will be made well in advance of any implementation.
